12:00 PM — June 2017 Brown Bag Lunch Lecture Series: All the Law in the World Won't Stop Them

Speaker:  Greg Veitch

Join Saratoga Springs Police Chief and author Gregory Veitch as he shares his new book entitled “All the Law in the World Won’t Stop Them”.  The author tells the true story about crime, corruption and gambling in Saratoga Springs from the founding of the village through 1921.  From the earliest gamblers through John Morrissey, Richard Canfield and Arnold Rothstein, the book recounts the darker side of Saratoga’s history.  The murder of a police constable, the bombing of the Canfield Casino, police commissioners extorting gamblers and prostitutes, gangsters stealing evidence from the police station and even a link between the gamblers at Saratoga and the fixing of the 1919 World Series.  These stories paint a picture of Saratoga Springs that is a far cry from the clean, safe tourist resort that we know today, and the stories are all true!

This FREE event takes place on Thursday, June 8, 2017 from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM in the H. Dutcher Community Room, Saratoga Springs Public Library, 49 Henry Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866
